NVIDIA Geforce RTX 5090 GPU used prices in Japan have jumped up to 950,000YEN (~$6001) which basically makes the top-of-the-line GPU inaccessible for most gamers. The big price bump comes due to extreme shortage conditions which turns a high-end consumer GPU into a rare commodity. Purchasing new hardware is now almost a lost cause in the market due to the lack of available stock.
Used cards reach 957,000 yen while new stock sells for 1.2 million yen
NVIDIA's graphics card has 32GB VRAM via GDDR7 memory bus which still keeps it in high demand for gaming and AI. However, the product is not easy to get your hands on in Japan at the moment. This shortage has led to the product reaching new heights on the secondary market for the current generation hardware.
Specifications
- VRAM: 32GB
- Memory Type: GDDR7
- Used Price (Oct): 957,000 JPY
- New Price (Oct): 1,200,000 JPY

New stock that has recently landed on Japanese retail market were priced at around 1,200,000YEN (~$7580) which is a significant increase compared to the original launch price of 390,000YEN (~$2464). Listings of used cards on sites like Yahoo Auctions Japan has shot from 350,000YEN (~$2211) a year ago, all the way to almost 1,000,000YEN (~$6317) now.
People are noticing a sudden price hike due to rising GDDR7 memory prices and rumors of the production line stopping. According to a report by GAZLOG, as new stock is getting close to being out of stock, the prices of used stock are seeing a rapid increase. The shortage of stock has created a gap for the high-VRAM consumer market until we might see a new product launch perhaps in 2027.
Previously we've looked into future GDDR7 chip options from NVIDIA, which helps paint the picture of the current supply chain issues. It shows us the effect component costs and rumors of production have on consumer prices. At the moment, RTX 5090 is still a very popular item despite the massive price increase in Japan.
