Intel has previewed its next-generation Xeon processor, codenamed "Diamond Rapids," which is scheduled to arrive in 2027. The announcement marks a significant step forward for Intel's data center roadmap, targeting high-end infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) workloads with substantial performance gains.
The next-generation server chip features a scalable modular design and doubled memory bandwidth for cloud infrastructure.
The Diamond Rapids chip will be built on Intel's advanced 18A-P process node and feature a large-die modular design with scalable system-on-chip architecture. This structural shift allows the processor to scale efficiently across different server configurations while maintaining high core counts and memory bandwidth.
Core count increases by 50% compared to previous generations, directly addressing the growing demands of modern cloud computing environments. Memory bandwidth is doubled through expanded channels and higher frequencies, while latency remains unified to ensure consistent performance under heavy workloads.
The processor will support PCIe Gen 6 technology, enabling faster data transfer rates for storage and peripheral devices. These technical upgrades position Diamond Rapids as a competitive solution for enterprises requiring high throughput and low-latency memory access in demanding server applications.
