Unknown Worlds has confirmed that Subnautica 2 will enter Early Access on May 14. The developer announced this specific launch date alongside details about the game's pricing and platform availability. Players can purchase the title on PC through Steam, the Microsoft Store, and the Epic Games Store. The game will also launch as a day-one title on Xbox Game Pass.
The base price for Subnautica 2 is set at 29.99 USD (about $29.99). This pricing applies to the global PC market across all supported digital storefronts. The Early Access period is planned to last approximately two years. Unknown Worlds intends to release regular updates and patches throughout this time until the full 1.0 version arrives.
The Early Access build includes support for four-player co-op and features vast alien oceans with lush new biomes. Design Lead Anthony Gallegos stated that the current version is still somewhat buggy and lacks a complete story at launch. He emphasized that the team overcame significant challenges, including legal battles with publisher Krafton and former founder Charlie Cleveland, to deliver the project.
Gallegos noted that the team's goal remains delivering the best possible Subnautica experience despite past difficulties. He cited the excitement of working on the next game and the support from the community as key motivators during tough times. The developer has not confirmed the exact timeline for the final 1.0 release beyond the two-year Early Access window.
