Intel is urging PC makers to adopt its upcoming Intel 18A processors for consumer devices. The company is pushing for a faster transition to the new node, according to Nikkei Asia.
Intel 18A node limited to client processors
The Intel 18A node is currently limited to client processors. Products on this node include Panther Lake and Wildcat Lake. The server chip Clearwater Forest has not been released yet. Older processors like Alder Lake, Raptor Lake, and Meteor Lake compete for manufacturing capacity with Xeon chips on Intel 7 and Intel 4/3 nodes. Externally made Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake face capacity constraints at TSMC.

Intel's push for Intel 18A adoption could improve its profit margins, as higher-priced Panther Lake and Wildcat Lake shipments increase. PC makers that accept the new processors may gain market share. The transition is also driving peripheral upgrades to justify higher device prices.
Supply of older Intel client processors is unlikely to improve, according to the report. Intel has not confirmed the timeline for Intel 18A availability in consumer devices.
