PC modders are pushing the boundaries of game engine architecture with a new technical demonstration for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. This update allows players to run Grand Theft Auto III inside the San Andreas world on an in-game television set. The achievement matters because it creates a nested gaming environment where two distinct titles operate simultaneously within a single process.
Modder Dryxio embeds Grand Theft Auto III into San Andreas TV
The mod was created by developer Dryxio and builds upon previous work from February 2026. That earlier project allowed GTA III and Vice City to run as independent engines within San Andreas. The current iteration takes this further by embedding the older game directly into the San Andreas rendering pipeline. The mod requires careful optimization to maintain performance while managing two active game states.
Technically, the mod shares the Direct3D device between the parent game and the embedded title. GTA III renders directly into the television's live GPU texture without pausing the main San Andreas game. This technical achievement enables seamless visual integration, avoiding the frame rate drops common in emulation or windowed overlays. The system manages the graphics pipeline to ensure both games render correctly on the same screen space.
Players can switch control between CJ in San Andreas and Claude in GTA III at will. A second demo shows Vice City running inside GTA III, which itself runs inside San Andreas. This creates a multi-layered gaming experience that demonstrates the flexibility of the Rockstar game engines. The mod highlights the technical depth available to PC gaming communities through reverse engineering and modding.
