GMKtec Mini PCs Stolen at IFA Berlin: Booth Emptied Overnight

GMKtec experienced a significant security breach at the IFA Berlin exhibition this week, resulting in the theft of all display units from their booth. This incident highlights the vulnerability of high-value hardware in public exhibition spaces and underscores the importance of securing equipment. The Chinese mini PC manufacturer faced a complete loss of their showcase products overnight, forcing them to adapt their presence on the floor.

Staff resort to handwritten signs after thieves break into locked cabinets

The theft occurred between September 4 and September 6, 2024, at the IFA electronics show in Germany. Thieves forcibly pried open locked cabinets to steal the high-value mini PCs displayed by GMKtec. The brand lost all its physical inventory meant for public demonstration during this period.

In response to the empty booth, GMKtec staff wrote handwritten promotional signs to maintain their presence at the exhibition. The company had no display units available for visitors to interact with after the break-in. The staff relied on these manual signs to communicate with attendees despite the lack of hardware.

German police have opened an investigation into the theft, but recovery of the stolen devices appears unlikely. Limited surveillance coverage at the venue reduces the chances of retrieving the stolen mini PCs. GMKtec CEO advised that valuable exhibition products must never be left unattended in venues overnight, even if transporting them daily is difficult.
