Slurp Burgers turns GMKtec M5 Ultra mini PC into battery-powered laptop using 24V power tool batteries

Slurp Burgers took a regular mini PC and made it into a tough battery-powered laptop that's powered by power tool batteries. The Slurptop is a unique custom laptop that gives you the freedom of portable computing without being tethered to a power outlet. If you need to work in remote areas or even off the grid, you can easily power this thing with some 24V Kobalt batteries you can take out and swap. The focus here was on independence from an AC power source, rather than making it look super cool.

Custom 3D-printed chassis houses mini PC motherboard and hot-swappable power tool batteries

The Slurptop features a GMKtec M5 Ultra motherboard mini PC with an 7 7730U processor inside. Slurp Burgers mounted that in a custom 3D printed case that looks like a cyberdeck. There's an internal UPS switch to let you effortlessly switch between the power from a wall charger and the battery. That lets you hot-swap the power source so you can keep the machine going.

Specifications

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7730U
  • Base Hardware: GMKtec M5 Ultra Mini PC Motherboard
  • Power Source: 24V Kobalt Power Tool Battery
  • Battery Capacity: 8Ah (optional)
  • Keyboard: Ergonomic staggered, MX switches, SA keycaps, numpad

For input, you get an ergonomic staggered keyboard with MX switches and SA keycaps. There's a dedicated numpad on there for people who like to type in numbers. There's also a trackball with a PixArt PMW3360 sensor at the bottom for moving around. On the flip cover part you can hide an XP-Pen graphics tablet for drawing.

It runs on regular 24V Kobalt power tool batteries. Slurp Burgers says you can get about 5 hours of battery life for light productivity tasks like writing words. If you replace the regular battery with the optional 8Ah battery, you'll have even longer. There's a little OLED screen on the handle that shows you some system info.

It shows how you can use mini PC motherboards and make them work with different kinds of power. The Slurptop shows how you can still get high performance computing without needing regular power sources. It's a cool example of how you can use modular hardware parts and put them in a custom case.
