USB hub enables multiple wired controllers
The build uses a 4-port USB hub to connect several wired controllers. A 50mm PC cooling fan was added to prevent thermal throttling. The phone runs on a Tensor G3 chipset. The user installed ES-DE, short for EmulationStation Desktop Edition, to organize game ROMs.
The active cooling system is expected to maintain stable framerates during gameplay, according to the Reddit user Prior_Explanation_52. Commenters on the post suggested rooting the device and installing a custom ROM to bypass Google's performance limits.
The Pixel 8's Tensor G3 still delivers adequate performance for emulation, the user noted. The project demonstrates a creative reuse of a damaged smartphone. Google has not commented on the modification.
