Google announced a major overhaul to its iOS-to-Android migration tools at the Android Show 2026 on May 19, 2026. The company plans to introduce Android 17, which will significantly simplify the process of switching from an iPhone to an Android device. This update aims to transfer a comprehensive range of user data and settings to ensure a seamless transition for new users.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 receive the update in July 2026
The migration scope covers media files, core data, system settings, and applications. Users can transfer photos, videos, documents, messages, WhatsApp data, call history, contacts, notes, and calendar entries. The update also supports the transfer of home screen layouts, wallpapers, alarms, accessibility settings, eSIMs, email accounts, saved passwords, and free apps with their existing user data.
Initial support for the upgraded migration tool will debut on Pixel and Samsung devices. Samsung devices running One UI 9.0, specifically the Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8, are expected to receive the update in July 2026. The Pixel 11 Pro will receive the feature later in the fall of 2026. Other Android original equipment manufacturers will receive the update later in the year, though exact dates remain unconfirmed.
Google is also expanding Quick Share to support native-like file sharing with iPhones and Macs. This AirDrop-like functionality will roll out to devices from Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and other hardware manufacturers throughout 2026. The stable official launch of Android 17 is anticipated as early as June or July 2026, but the timeline remains subject to change.
