Apple's rumored foldable iPhone, internally known as the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, may face significant delays due to unresolved design issues. According to a leaker, trial production has stalled because of concerns over the hinge mechanism's durability.
Hinge durability halts trial production
The device reportedly features a display that is visually creaseless, solving a common problem with foldable screens. However, the hinge mechanism has failed high-frequency folding tests, preventing the device from moving forward in production.
If Apple can resolve the mechanical problems, the foldable iPhone could launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro in September 2026. If the issues persist, the launch may be pushed back to 2027.
The information comes from a single anonymous leaker known as Instant Digital. Apple has not confirmed any plans for a foldable iPhone, and the timeline remains uncertain.
