No longer will you need to pick between two different visual time periods in the classic RPG Dragon Quest VIII. Unofficial PC port of Dragon Quest VIII – Masterpiece Reborn has updated to 0.7.1. Now you can enjoy both the original visual look of PS2 and the exclusive content of 3DS release in one installation. Bringing the full history of Dragon Quest VIII into one build.
Community patch combines PS2 visuals with 3DS exclusive content
The Dragon Quest VIII port isn't an official Square Enix release. It's a community-driven mod that allows players to switch between original PS2 visuals (cel-shaded) and the updated look of the 3DS version. This port lets you play at high FPS and at up to 4K resolution. Textures have been upgraded as well, so you can enjoy the original art style with a sharper look on modern screens.
For Dragon Quest VIII – Masterpiece Reborn port update 0.7.1. there are some pretty major character and content additions. Now you can actually play as Red and Morrie, characters which were otherwise non-playable in the past. In addition, the new update brings upgraded 3D models for them. There's also exclusive items and cutscenes from the 3DS version.
Each new update for Dragon Quest VIII – Masterpiece Reborn port gets the project closer to being even better. Of course, there's been no word of an official Dragon Quest VIII remake from Square Enix. So this unofficial port is the best (and only?) way to enjoy the entire game on your modern PC nowadays. This 0.7.1 patch is the current stable version of this community project.
