It's official, Apple has made a comeback and is bringing back the backlit Apple logo on the new 14" and 16" MacBook Pro. You've been waiting for almost a decade for this change and now you can finally own a MacBook Pro with a backlit logo once again. For all those folks who have been waiting for Apple to bring back this old-school logo glow, you can finally get a new MacBook Pro without any compromises in getting that classic design. It's definitely a huge design tweak that you can see Apple is going for with its professional laptop series.
Apple reintroduces the glowing logo on 14-inch and 16-inch models with OLED screens
Apple has launched the new MacBook Pro in two sizes, 14" and 16" with OLED technology for the first time on the series. These new MacBook Pros are out and are available for purchase worldwide starting November 6, 2024. So now you can finally get your hands on them.
Specifications
- Display Technology: OLED
- Backlit Logo Feature: Reintroduced; brightness syncs with display
- Available Sizes: 14-inch, 16-inch
The backlit logo is going to be in sync with the brightness of the OLED display. This is going to give you a cohesive experience with the Apple logo on the new MacBook Pro. It'll ensure that the Apple logo is always in sync with the brightness level of the display.
The Apple logo is illuminated. It works directly with the brightness level of your display. So if you make your display brighter, it'll automatically make the Apple logo on your MacBook Pro brighter to match.
And if you make the brightness level of your display lower, it'll automatically make your Apple logo darker. This gives it a really cohesive look on the lid and display with the lighting effects.
There's actually no official confirmation from Apple about why the backlit logo was removed in the first place. We don't really know what the reason for that was. But now you can see Apple is bringing it back and this is likely a direct response to the years of customers wanting it back for the last ten years.
When we wrote about the latest update of the MacBook Pro we also noticed these balancing and stability notes which might hint towards this similar trend of making small improvements. So now it's confirmed that Apple is also focusing on what the users are looking for when it comes to aesthetic features, along with performance improvements.

The brightness sync is a neat touch but I wonder how it behaves with sRGB vs P3 workflows. The kernel driver needs to map those luminance curves correctly to avoid washing out the lid icon.
finally 😂
Does this mean the 14 and 16 inch models are now the only ones getting the glow or did they sneak it into the base Air line too?
The spec sheet only lists the 14 and 16 inch Pro models. Apple has kept the matte logo on the standard Air and older MacBook Air models for now.
I do not care about the logo. I care that they are still locking the boot partition by default. Give me a choice to disable the telemetry or I walk.
OLED burn in on the lid next to a bright white logo is going to be a real headache in five years time
Nice to see them listen to feedback but I am still waiting for real battery numbers on these OLED panels before I believe the efficiency claims
