11 users are getting a cleaner search experience that prioritizes speed and reduces visual noise. Microsoft is rolling out changes to the Windows Search Box that strip promotional content from web results and simplify the home screen. This matters because it removes distractions and helps you find local files, apps, and settings faster without clicking through ads.

The update targets Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel for Windows 11 26H2. Microsoft is using a Controlled Feature Rollout to distribute these changes gradually. The goal is to make the search interface feel more focused by removing related product suggestions that previously cluttered web results.

Search now handles typos and partial words better for app queries, so typing "utlook" still finds Outlook. File search supports two-character queries and surfaces cloud files when they are the stronger match. Microsoft also improved ranking for settings results to show relevant options higher in the list.

A new Privacy & Security > Search setting lets you toggle whether web and Microsoft Store suggestions appear. Local results like apps, settings, and files now appear ahead of web suggestions when they are a better match. System items such as This PC and Recycle Bin are also easier to discover. Microsoft is working on reducing search crashing and loading issues to improve reliability.
