2028 iPhone to Feature Advanced 4-Side Bending OLED Display Technology

Apple is reportedly developing a new OLED display technology for its 2028 iPhones. The display will feature a 4-side bending design, allowing the screen to curve on all four edges. This would mark a significant evolution from current iPhone displays.

IZO cathodes improve edge clarity

The key innovation is the use of IZO (Indium Zinc Oxide) cathodes instead of traditional materials. According to a report from ETNews, the higher electrode transparency of IZO reduces distortion at the curved edges of the panel. This could improve visual quality on the curved portions of the screen.

LG Display is investing 1.106 trillion won (about $770 million) in OLED infrastructure to support this technology. Display is also considering whether to invest in new factory lines for TCO sputtering equipment, though that decision has not been finalized.

The 2028 iPhones are expected to launch globally that year. Apple has not confirmed the display upgrade, and the details remain based on industry reports. Samsung Display's investment plans are also unconfirmed at this time.
