SK Hynix HBM4E Memory Ships With 48 GB Capacity As Global Fab Expansion Begins

Memory supply chains are shifting as SK Hynix expands its global footprint to secure the hardware backbone of artificial intelligence. The company is building new manufacturing and research facilities in South Korea and the United States to meet surging demand from AI accelerators. Buyers relying on next-generation AI hardware will see these facilities determine the availability of high-bandwidth memory chips in the coming years.

New facilities in Indiana and South Korea will support next-generation memory production

SK Hynix is deploying its latest HBM4 standard in 's Rubin AI accelerators, marking a critical step in current AI infrastructure. The company is also preparing for the next generation of memory with HBM4E, which offers 48 GB capacity and 16 Gbps speeds. These advancements ensure that AI workloads have the bandwidth required to scale without hitting memory bottlenecks.

The company is establishing a new global AI research and development center in the United States to support these memory innovations. SK Hynix is simultaneously constructing a semiconductor cluster in Yongin, South Korea, and expanding its Indiana Fab in the USA. These facilities will serve as the production bases for HBM4E, LPDDR6, and DDR6, which are set for launch in the coming year.

SK Hynix CEO Kwak No-Jung stated that the AI industry cannot exist without memory, emphasizing the company's role in enabling new possibilities. He added that the company will maintain its technological superiority and market dominance through these new global production bases. SK Hynix remains the top supplier of DRAM and memory technologies, competing directly with and Micron.

We looked at HBM4 vs HBF earlier while tracking SK Hynix's competitive positioning against Samsung in the AI memory space. The company continues to lead the market by aligning its production strategy with the specific needs of AI accelerator manufacturers. This expansion ensures that high-performance memory remains available for the next wave of AI hardware deployments.
