Shotcut has released version 26.6 Beta, introducing support for OpenFX and VST2 plugins after years of user requests. The update also reorganizes several menu items to improve workflow efficiency.

Video editor introduces industry-standard audio tools and visual effects API after years of user requests

The video editor now allows users to apply industry-standard audio effects like vocal compressors, EQs, and noise-removal tools through the new VST2 integration. OpenFX support enables the use of open-standard APIs for 2D visual effects, expanding creative possibilities within the software.

Users can adjust dynamic range changes between SDR and HDR formats using a dedicated full-screen Preview Window added in this release. The update supports system displays but conflicts with the Use Old Video Output setting on Snapdragon X ARM systems.

Several interface elements have been relocated to streamline navigation. Declick Audio moved from the Time category to the Audio menu, while External Monitor shifted to the Player menu.

The new menu structure aims to improve accessibility for power users who frequently switch between audio and video tools. The changes reflect ongoing efforts to modernize the Shotcut interface without disrupting established workflows.
