MSI quietly added three new motherboards to its AM4 lineup, giving budget and mid-range builders more options for AMD Ryzen systems. These releases fill gaps in the existing B550 catalog with specific form factors and connectivity features. Buyers looking for compact builds or expanded storage options now have new hardware to consider before finalizing their PC plans.
MSI adds three new B550 motherboards to its AM4 lineup
The new lineup includes the PRO B550M WIFI6E, the PRO B550-S, and the B550-S WIFI6E. All three boards support Ryzen 3000, 4000G, and 5000 series processors. The PRO B550M WIFI6E uses a MicroATX form factor measuring 243.84 by 210 millimeters. The other two models, the PRO B550-S and B550-S WIFI6E, use a standard ATX form factor measuring 243.84 by 304.8 millimeters.
Memory configurations differ between the form factors. The MicroATX board provides two DDR4 DIMM slots supporting speeds up to 4600 MT/s with overclocking. The ATX boards offer four DDR4 DIMM slots with support for up to 128GB of memory and speeds up to 4800+ MT/s with overclocking. Storage expansion on the MicroATX model includes one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot, one M.2 slot running at PCIe 4.0 x4, and four SATA 6Gb/s ports. The ATX models provide two PCIe x16 slots, one PCIe x1 slot, two M.2 slots, and four SATA ports. The first M.2 slot on the ATX boards supports PCIe 4.0 x4, while the second supports PCIe 3.0 x4.
Connectivity and cooling features vary by model. The PRO B550M WIFI6E and B550-S WIFI6E come with pre-installed Wi-Fi 6E modules. The ATX boards feature enhanced cooling with heatsinks on the VRM, chipset, and M.2 slots. All three models use the Realtek ALC897 7.1-channel audio codec and the Realtek RTL8111H Gigabit Ethernet controller. The ATX boards also include 5Gbps and 10Gbps USB Type-A and Type-C ports on the rear I/O panel. MSI has not yet announced pricing or release dates for these boards.
These additions sit alongside MSI's existing B550 offerings, such as the TOMAHAWK WIFI, which also features Wi-Fi 6E. The new boards provide distinct choices for users prioritizing size, memory capacity, or wireless connectivity. Builders can now select a board based on specific slot counts and form factor requirements without waiting for new chipsets.
