Microsoft has announced plans to release an 8GB RAM version of the Surface Laptop in 2026. The device will start at 1299.99 USD (about $1,300). This marks the first Surface laptop with less than 16GB of RAM since Microsoft introduced the Windows 11 AI+ PC requirement.
8GB model may limit AI features
The 8GB model features a processor with 50 TOPS of AI performance. However, according to Windows Central, the 8GB RAM configuration may not fully utilize AI capabilities in multi-tasking scenarios, especially for features like semantic search and Windows Recall.
The 8GB configuration will launch later in 2026. Microsoft has not specified an exact release date.
Microsoft is also offering 16GB and 24GB RAM versions of the Surface Laptop starting at $1499.99. The 8GB model is priced lower but may not meet the Windows 11 AI+ PC requirements, potentially limiting its AI functionality.
