Bungie has announced that Marathon will launch its second season on June 2, 2026. The update introduces a new experimental PvE-only mode designed to expand the game's player base. This mode joins another experimental option that blends PvE gameplay with light PvP elements.
Season 2 adds Night Marsh zone and Sentinel defensive shell
Season 2 adds the Night Marsh zone to the Tau Ceti system. Players can also equip the Sentinel, a new defensive Runner shell. The update revamps how players acquire Runner shell stats through the Cradle system. Bungie also increases progression rates for faction and Runner levels.
Game director Joe Ziegler stated that the studio wants players to experience the thrill of surviving on the edge of the explored universe. He described the new content as offering options for players to either compete intensely or relax. The team aims to build on the strong core community established in the first season.
Marathon reportedly cost over $250 million to develop. Bungie requires significant commercial success from each release to sustain its operational scale. The developer is using accessible game modes to grow the audience for this high-budget title.
