Google has released Android 17 for Pixel smartphones beginning with the Google Pixel 6 model. The update brings specific enhancements to foldable devices and introduces new media creation tools powered by Gemini.
Pixel devices gain a virtual gamepad for partially folded screens and new Gemini-powered media tools.
The operating system now supports a dedicated gaming mode designed specifically for foldable phones. This feature allows users to partially fold the device so one half of the screen functions as a virtual gamepad while the other half displays the game content.
Google has added Screen Reactions, which lets users overlay their live selfie camera feed onto any active screen recording. The update also expands Gemini Omni capabilities on Pixel devices through voice prompts for video editing and song generation based on user descriptions.
The release includes improved security controls that give users granular access permissions for contacts and precise location sharing. A new Bubbles feature enhances multitasking by allowing app icons to float in the foreground while other applications remain active behind them.
