Unofficial ports of the PS4 exclusive Driveclub racing game are now available to run natively on Windows without requiring emulation of the CPU. This is significant because it means players can now enjoy the game on modern PCs at unlocked framerates with high resolution support. The community port of DriveClub, dubbed DriveClub Recomp, is able to recompile the original PS4 code to run natively on x86-64 systems.
Community patch enables native Windows execution with modern graphics features
The port created by OverkillLabs3 is able to do this by employing a GPU to Vulkan command translation layer. This eliminates the need for emulating the console and lets the game run the original code natively. Players need to supply their own (legally acquired) game data, as the base game is not included with the port.
DriveClub Recomp supports a variety of display options, including resolutions as low as 720p, all the way up to 8K resolution, and ultrawide support. Also, you can now enable NVIDIA DLAA and AMD FSR 3.1 Native AA to enhance your visuals. This unlocks a lot of ways to tweak your visuals without being stuck to the original console FPS.
Most recently, performance has seen a large boost with recent updates. A patch for v0.2.3 of the port netted an extra ~15% FPS improvement in test races. For example, with an RTX 5070 Ti, you'll get around 60FPS at 4K resolution.
After the recent update, you'll get 71FPS instead. Even with an RTX 5090, you can hit 100-120FPS at 4K resolution when using SMAA 1X.
Of course, the unofficial ports don't yet have online multiplayer support. Currently, that's not available at all. Also, there may be some graphical glitches or stutters as the shaders are compiled initially.
This is an expected quirk with the WIP software. However, the core single player game is very much playable on PC.
