Native recompilation delivers ultrawide support and uncapped framerates
The project stands out because it is not an emulator but a full recompilation of the original code into the C programming language. The team utilizes the open-source N64: Recompiled framework and the RT64 renderer to achieve this. This approach gives users engine-level control over the classic title, ensuring precise performance on Windows, Linux, and Mac systems.
Developers Rainchus, Ballaam, Killklli, 2dos, and Umedtakes rebuilt the game from scratch to unlock modern features. The port supports true high-resolution rendering across different aspect ratios, including ultrawide monitors. It also provides uncapped framerates without requiring artificial speed-ups to the game logic. Input mapping covers keyboard, mouse, and controller configurations for flexible playstyles.
