Google has announced a major update for Android Auto, introducing a Material 3 Expressive design with a shape-shifting user interface. The new look adapts to different contexts, offering a more dynamic experience behind the wheel.

The update brings support for video playback at 1080p60 via YouTube in compatible cars, rolling out later this year. Dolby Atmos spatial audio will also be available for several car brands, enhancing in-car entertainment. Additionally, Gemini Intelligence is integrated to handle car-specific queries and tasks, such as navigation or climate control.
The update is expected to arrive globally later in 2026, according to Google.
Google reports that over 250 million cars on the road are powered by Android Auto. Vehicles with Google built-in will gain extra features, including the ability to join Zoom meetings. The system will also intelligently transition from video to audio when the car starts moving.
Google has not confirmed the exact launch window for all features.
