Google has announced a series of new features for Android, including a Pause Point feature that delays app launches by 10 seconds to prevent mindless time wasting. The update also brings improvements to Quick Share, scam call protection, and Android Auto.
Pause Point feature delays app launch
The Pause Point feature shows a 10-second pause screen before an app opens, with a configurable timer. Quick Share now supports QR code generation for cloud-based device sharing. Android 17 introduces Screen Reaction, which records the user and screen simultaneously for reaction videos. Scam call protection partners with banks to verify incoming calls and automatically disconnects fakes. Live Threat Detection warns against SMS forwarding and accessibility overlay attacks. Find Hub device lock now requires biometric authentication. Android Auto gets Material 3 Expressive design, widgets, Immersive Navigation with 3D view and lane/traffic light highlighting, and a media UI refresh with full HD/60fps and Dolby Atmos support.
The features are rolling out globally starting May 13, 2025. Scam call protection for devices running Android 11 and later will expand within weeks, with broader bank support planned for the second half of 2026. The scam call feature was already rolled out in Brazil and will be enabled by default on Android 17 devices.
Google has integrated Gemini Intelligence for AI security and privacy. The update also improves data migration from iOS to Android, adding support for transferring passwords, photos, contacts, and home screen layouts.
