As of Oct 2026, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 is back on top of the Steam Hardware Survey once again. A good comeback for an old-timer to outshine the RTX 5070 that took a lead last month (Sept). This is a reminder for buyers and gamers alike. Things can change pretty fast in the market, depending on regional user patterns.
RTX 3060 and RTX 5070 tie at 3.78% market share in October Steam Hardware Survey
GeForce RTX 3060 and 5070 hold the same market share at 3.78% at the moment. The 5070 lost the momentum from the previous month where it took the lead due to a spike of Chinese language users in the month of Sept. This is also a reminder of the volatile Steam survey data points that could change when there's a spike in regional user adoption.
Looking at the system memory trend, we see a notable change in system memory setup. For 16 GB system RAM, there's an increase of +3.60% in its market share while for 32 GB system RAM, it shows a huge drop of -5.16% in the same period of time.
Last month also saw changes in video memory used. We see 8 GB VRAM GPUs taking the lead again with a decrease in 16 GB VRAM GPUs by -0.86%. This is also a reflection of the changes in hardware preferences for a whole lot of Steam users.
RTX 5070's price tag above $800 could also potentially have an impact on the sales volume. There are also speculations that RTX 5070 could overtake RTX 3060 in the next month (depending on current trends). Follow our previous coverage for GeForce RTX 3060 (Steam July 2026 Survey) as we are keeping track on it.
To sum up, we can clearly see the RTX 3060's durability in the mid-range GPU class with this Oct 2026 data. The hardware survey also shows us the changing trend in the adoption of GPU as well as RAM among the active gamers. This gives us a good overview of the current hardware distribution.

The 16 GB system RAM gain is just people clearing cache before a big game. Steam does not distinguish between application memory and resident set size here.
My wallet is finally breathing again. 32 GB kits are too expensive for my current setup.
