NVIDIA Stops RTX 5090 Production, Prices Surge to Nearly $10,000

NVIDIA stops RTX 5090 production to focus on higher- margin RTX PRO cards, causing prices to surge near $10,000 due to scarcity.

NVIDIA Stops RTX 5090 Production, Prices Surge to Nearly $10,000

effectively ended the RTX 5090 production, which massively impacts the high-end GPU market for buyers and collectors. No more GB202 GPU chip supply, necessary for flagship GPU. NVIDIA stopped providing the core chip for RTX 5090 graphics card, which means they are changing the focus to more profitable products like professional GPU.

NVIDIA halts GB202 chip supply to prioritize higher-margin RTX PRO cards

This results in no RTX 5090 production. The scarce availability causes massive price increase on the second-hand market. Buyers of this specific graphics card have fewer options, and the cost has skyrocketed.

  • GPU Chip: GB202
  • Memory: 32GB GDDR7
  • Memory Bandwidth: 1.8TB/s
  • MSRP: $1,999
  • Market Price: Approaching $10,000

The RTX 5090 requires the GB202 GPU chip with 32GB GDDR7 memory (about 1.8TB/s bandwidth). NVIDIA ended the GB202 GPU supply, which means they are apparently shifting the production resources to other products. It looks like NVIDIA is going to focus more on RTX PRO 5500 (AI oriented card), which is more profitable despite using more expensive components. This means the difference between gaming GPU and the professional AI GPU used by NVIDIA.

According to the financial analysis, the RTX 5090 has about 850 Euro gross profit per unit. But the RTX PRO 5500 (which uses more expensive memory modules) has a gross profit of 1200-1400 Euro. The huge difference in profit margin pushes NVIDIA to shift the production to a more profitable professional line of products.

The RTX 5080 24GB will likely use the GB203 chip. The RTX 50 SUPER will face delay due to the resource shift.

The RTX 5090's price reached almost $10,000 in some regions because of its sudden scarcity. The price in Japan is about 1,000,000 JPY (about $6329). In Korea, the price is about 10,000,000 KRW (about $7491).

Huge difference from original $1999 MSRP. We've been following the RTX 5090. Check our previous coverage: Razer Blade 18 RTX 5090 Error.

Officially, NVIDIA didn't confirm the production halt. They won't comment on the rumor. The product is already gone from the official store.

That's why we can consider the RTX 5090 as effectively EOL. Who knows if it is permanent EOL or just resource shift for a while. For now, we can say that the buyers will face a shortage of options and price inflation for the discontinued flagship.
