Ubisoft is implementing a development staff restructure that will directly affect the future of several long-running video game series. Staff reductions are being made to teams working on the Anno, Trials, and Black Flag game series. This consolidation hints at changes in how resources are being allocated for some of the publisher's key IPs.
Ubisoft restructures development resources for three key franchises
Specifically, the staff reductions are being made to the development teams working on these three separate gaming properties. Anno, a series known for its complex city-building mechanics, is seeing changes in the development process. Likewise, the Trials series which focuses on physics based platforming is seeing development staff reductions.
Also included in this is the Black Flag series which is a major part of the Assassin's Creed video game series. This is a strategic move to optimize development for the Ubisoft lineup. Certain projects are getting focus while others within their existing lineup are being scaled back.
Note, this isn't an overall studio network shift. This is focused on the core development teams for these particular game series. As part of overall changes to how the company's footprint is being adjusted. What it means for development schedules of the other projects in these game series remains to be seen with these development staff changes.
