Ubisoft Connect now lets Xbox console owners unlock select PC games for free. This change matters because it removes the need to buy the same title twice on different platforms. Players who already own the console version can now access the PC version without an additional purchase.
One-way cross-platform redemption removes duplicate purchases
The feature is part of a partnership between Ubisoft and Microsoft to expand game availability on the Xbox app for PC. Xbox console owners of select Ubisoft titles can redeem the PC version directly through Ubisoft Connect. The redemption process is one-way, meaning PC owners cannot claim console versions in return.
Microsoft explained that customers purchasing a digital version of the listed titles will immediately get both the Xbox console and Xbox on PC digital versions. For existing owners of an Xbox digital version of the listed titles, the PC version will be received during a progressive rollout period until August 4. This rollout ensures that users who bought the games earlier in the year also receive the cross-platform benefit.
DLC and premium editions transfer to the PC version, but in-game currency and one-time-use content do not. New premium titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws are now purchasable on the Xbox app. This integration allows players to manage their library across both platforms using a single purchase record.
This update simplifies cross-platform ownership for Ubisoft games on the Xbox ecosystem. Players can now enjoy their purchased titles on both console and PC without repurchasing. The feature is available immediately for new buyers and will roll out to existing owners through August 4.
