RTX 3060 12GB Closes Gap to RTX 4060 in 2026 Benchmarks

The RTX 3060 12GB closes the performance gap to the RTX 4060 in 2026 benchmarks. See how 12GB VRAM helps the older card outperform newer 8GB models.

RTX 3060 12GB Closes Gap to RTX 4060 in 2026 Benchmarks

The RTX 3060 12GB has returned to US retail at $329, and its value proposition has shifted significantly. Three years after its launch, this older card is closing the performance gap to newer 8GB models in modern gaming benchmarks. Buyers looking for budget-friendly 1440p or 4K gaming options may find this older hardware more relevant than ever.

12GB VRAM helps older card outperform newer 8GB models at high resolutions

We are comparing the RTX 3060 12GB against the RTX 4060 and the RX 7600. Both newer competitors ship with only 8GB of VRAM, which limits their ability to handle higher resolution textures. The RTX 3060 retains its 12GB buffer, which appears to mitigate performance drops in demanding new titles.

  • Memory Capacity: 12GB
  • Memory Capacity (RTX 4060): 8GB
  • Memory Capacity (RX 7600): 8GB

Benchmark data from 3DCenter and PC Games Hardware shows the RTX 4060's lead shrinking over time. At 1080p, the RTX 4060 led the RTX 3060 by 23.5% in 2023. Its advantage has now fallen to 18.8%. The Radeon RX 7600 dropped from a 20.7% lead to 11.8%.

The gap widens further at 1440p resolution. The RTX 4060’s advantage fell from 19.4% to 8.5%. The RX 7600’s lead dropped from 17.3% to 5.0%. At 4K, both newer cards performed below the RTX 3060 baseline. The RTX 4060 reached 97.2% of its performance, while the RX 7600 scored 94.9%.

This analysis is not a same-game retest with identical drivers. It compares relative positions across benchmark suites from 2023 and 2026. The 12GB VRAM capacity helps the RTX 3060 age better against newer games that exceed 8GB limits. We touched on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series Crashes in our earlier Nvidia coverage.

The RTX 3060 12GB remains a competitive option at its current $329 price point. Its VRAM advantage allows it to outperform newer 8GB cards at higher resolutions. This makes it a practical choice for gamers prioritizing resolution over raw frame rates.
