Subnautica 2 Dev Blasts Pirates Bragging on Official Discord Server

Unknown Worlds Entertainment launched Subnautica 2 in early access on May 14, 2026. Shortly after, developer Anthony Gallegos addressed a group of pirates who were bragging about playing the game illegally on the official Discord server.

Developer addresses pirates directly

Gallegos said he understands why people pirate games, especially given current economic difficulties. He emphasized that the piracy itself did not bother him. What aggravated him was the flagrant behavior of those who flaunted their illegal copies in front of legitimate players waiting to play.

He encouraged players to buy the game and refund it within an hour if they did not like it, rather than resorting to piracy. Gallegos also expressed disappointment that someone would pirate a game that represents years of work and the studio's livelihood.

One pirate even asked for technical help with an incomplete leaked build. Gallegos responded sharply, calling the person a 'true idiot' for seeking support in the official Discord. He hopes such individuals will reconsider their choices.

Unknown Worlds Entertainment has not commented on whether any action will be taken against the pirates. The studio continues to support Subnautica 2 in early access.
