Steam May 2026 Survey Shows Windows 11 Gains on PC Gamers

Valve released the May 2026 Steam Hardware and Software Survey results this week. The data shows a measurable shift in operating system usage among PC gamers.

Windows 11 adoption rises while AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT detection improves

Windows 11 adoption on Steam grew by 2.02 percent during the reporting period. 10 share declined by 1.64 percent while Linux lost 0.53 percent of its user base. The overall Windows platform gained 0.38 percent as macOS increased by 0.15 percent.

RTX 3060 cards remain the most popular graphics processors on Steam. Radeon RX 9070 XT detection share rose by 1.24 percent compared to previous surveys. This increase suggests a recent software update fixed issues with faulty GPU identification.

The survey results reflect ongoing changes in PC gaming infrastructure. Windows 11 continues to gain ground on the older operating system while hardware detection improves.
