SSD prices in Japan have surged dramatically, with some models seeing increases of up to 300%. The price hikes affect Samsung's PCIe 5.0 drives, including the 9100 Pro series, as well as older models like the 990 Pro, 990 Evo Plus, and 870 Evo.
Samsung's PCIe 5.0 drives see massive increases
The 8TB Samsung 9100 Pro is now priced at 3470.97 USD (about $3,471) in Japan, compared to $1,960.69 on Amazon. The 4TB version with a heatsink costs 1773 USD (about $1,773), a 31.5% increase. The 2TB model is listed at 893 USD (about $893). Other Samsung SSDs have jumped up to 384.7% since January.

Kioxia SSDs also saw price increases ranging from 39.8% to 59.4%. In contrast, Western Digital, SanDisk, and Lexar drives experienced price drops during the same period.
The price surge is attributed to an ongoing AI-driven storage shortage. According to Akiba PC Hotline!, the increases reflect broader market pressures on NAND flash supply. Samsung has not commented on the price changes.
