Actor Damson Idris was photographed wearing unreleased Sony WH-1000XX headphones before the Met Gala. The new model is expected to be called the WH-1000XX The ColleXion, though that name may not be final. Sony is rumored to unveil the headphones on May 19, 2026.
Metal headband and heavier build
The WH-1000XX features a metal headband and arms that sink into the earcups. A metal casing surrounds the 3.5mm jack. The design is non-foldable, similar to the WH-1000XM5. The headphones weigh approximately 312 grams, about 25% more than the WH-1000XM6.
Pricing is expected to be 649 USD (about $649) in the US, 629 EUR (about $741) in Europe, and 549 GBP (about $748) in the UK. Availability is expected globally starting May 19, 2026.
The WH-1000XX represents a more premium build than the current WH-1000XM6, with added metal components and increased weight. The non-foldable design continues the approach of the WH-1000XM5. Sony has not confirmed the official name or launch date.
