SK Hynix reported a fire at its M15X factory in Cheongju, South Korea on June 12. The incident marks the second safety event at this facility within one month. This production base manufactures high-bandwidth memory and advanced DRAM chips used in AI systems.
Second blaze at Cheongju facility extinguished by sprinklers with no casualties reported.
The blaze occurred inside a gas room on the second floor of the M15X building. Automatic sprinkler systems activated immediately to suppress the flames. No casualties resulted from the fire, according to company reports.
SK Hynix is currently investigating the root cause of the incident and checking for potential gas leaks. The company also assesses whether the event impacts ongoing production facilities at the site. This facility serves as a core manufacturing hub for critical memory products.
A prior safety incident occurred at the same M15X location on June 1. SK Hynix has not yet released details regarding any disruption to chip output or supply chain delivery timelines following these events.
