SilverStone CS340 chassis offers four 3-mode hot-swap drive bays for compact NAS builds

SilverStone introduced the CS340 chassis to address the growing demand for compact network-attached storage solutions. This release matters because it offers a specialized form factor that balances high drive capacity with a small physical footprint. Users looking to build a dense storage server without sacrificing case size now have a dedicated option.

Compact chassis supports Mini-ITX boards with four hot-swap drive bays

The CS340 is built around Mini-ITX and Deep Mini-ITX motherboard standards. It measures 220mm wide, 225mm high, and 300mm deep. The design includes a removable motherboard tray to simplify component installation and maintenance.

Specifications

  • Form Factor Support: Mini-ITX, Deep Mini-ITX
  • Dimensions: 220mm (W) x 225mm (H) x 300mm (D)
  • Drive Bays: 4x 3.5/2.5-inch hot-swap (U.2 NVMe, SAS III, SATA III), 1x internal 2.5-inch
  • Backplane Interface: Dual SlimSAS 8i (SF-8654), PCIe 4.0 x4, 64Gbps bandwidth
  • CPU Cooler Height Limit: 65mm

Storage is the primary focus of this unit. It features four 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch hot-swap bays that support SATA III, SAS III, and U.2 NVMe drives. A dual SlimSAS 8i backplane connects these drives, providing PCIe 4.0 x4 architecture with 64Gbps bandwidth. One additional internal 2.5-inch drive bay is also available.

The case supports Flex ATX power supplies and includes one PCI expansion slot. That slot accommodates cards up to 250mm in length and 113mm in width. Cooling options include a pre-installed 120mm rear fan, two 80mm front side fans, and one 60mm internal fan. CPU coolers are limited to a height of 65mm. Front I/O ports consist of one USB Type-C connector, two USB 3.0 ports, and audio jacks. Security features include a Kensington lock and a chassis intrusion detection switch.

SilverStone has not yet disclosed pricing or availability details for the CS340. The announcement was made on October 3, 2024, according to reports from KuaiJiKe.
