Silicon Motion introduced three new SSD controllers at Computex 2026. The company showcased hardware targeting mid-range consumer drives and high-capacity enterprise storage.

SM8466 chip supports 512 TB capacity and near-GPU performance levels in data centers
The SM2524XT serves as a DRAMless PCIe Gen 5 controller for NVMe solid-state drives. Silicon Motion designed this chip to deliver sequential read speeds up to 14 GB/s without requiring separate memory modules.
Silicon Motion also presented the SM8466, which marks the first PCI-Express Gen 6 SSD controller from the vendor. This enterprise-grade component supports storage capacities reaching 512 TB and aims for near-GPU performance levels in data center environments.
The third chip, the SM8388, updates a PCIe Gen 5 platform to support the NVMe 2.1 protocol. Silicon Motion integrated its MonTitan programmable software platform into this controller, which manages configurations for drives with up to 128 TB of storage capacity.

These controllers address different segments of the current storage market. The DRAMless design in the SM2524XT reduces costs and power draw for mainstream solid-state drives. The Gen 6 architecture in the SM8466 prepares enterprise systems for higher bandwidth requirements as GPU compute speeds increase.
