Samsung and Kioxia are exiting the 2D NAND market, with Samsung planning to phase out production at its Hwaseong Line 12 from March 2026. The facility will be converted to produce 1c DRAM instead.
Samsung to phase out 2D NAND production
Samsung will end MLC NAND supply by June 2026. Kioxia plans to exit 2D NAND and third-generation BiCS Flash by 2029, with final orders due by September 2026. Micron is ending its Crucial consumer business and shifting focus to advanced memory for AI data centers.

Global MLC NAND capacity is expected to drop 41.7% in 2026 compared to 2025. The spot price of MLC 64Gb chips has surged from about $6 to between $20 and $28, a 300% increase, according to reports from Chosun Ilbo and TrendForce.
The moves by major memory manufacturers reflect a broader industry shift away from legacy NAND technologies. The supply crunch has already driven significant price increases for MLC NAND, which is still used in some industrial and embedded applications.
