RTX 4080 is more than double the size of RTX 3060 Ti, forcing PC builders to check case compatibility

A community comparison shows the RTX 4080 is more than double the size of the RTX 3060 Ti, warning PC builders about case compatibility and motherboard slot stress.

On the recent community comparison we see the huge size difference between the old and new gen graphics cards. Moving to RTX 4080 from RTX 3060 Ti, will result in a huge size component which will change all rules of PC building. Now we have to think twice about case compatibility, cooling etc before we buy it.

Community comparison highlights case fit and slot stress issues

We have EVGA RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 4080 for comparison. Size difference is on the first sight. RTX 4080 takes much more space inside of the case. This is what we can see for most of the high-end GPUs these days.

RTX 4080 is much longer and thicker than RTX 3060 Ti. More than double. This is because of the higher power consumption and thermals. We need much bigger cooling for stable performance under load.

In many cases, cooling components go outside of the PCB for better airflow. This makes card size bigger. It's not just about the active components. We need to take this into account when we design PC internal setup.

We might need to use bigger case for such level of upgrades. Also, it will put more pressure on motherboard slots. We've been covering RTX 4080 a lot. Check out our previous news Acer Helios 16 Warranty Swap Upgrades.

Yes. Seems like we need to consider hardware size restrictions for the RTX 4080. Make sure to check case size and slot compatibility.
