Qualcomm and MediaTek are preparing to use TSMC's N2P 2nm process for their upcoming flagship chips, according to a Weibo leaker. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Dimensity 9600 could potentially surpass Apple's A20 and A20 Pro this year.
Leaker says architectural improvements also critical.
TSMC's N2P node promises a 5 percent performance and efficiency improvement over the standard N2 process. However, the leaker noted that architectural improvements will also be critical for Qualcomm and MediaTek to beat Apple.

Apple may stick with the N2 node for its A20 and A20 Pro chips, focusing on chip design to save costs. The A19 Pro's efficiency cores already deliver up to a 29 percent performance improvement with no increase in power draw, according to WCCFTech.
WCCFTech reported that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Dimensity 9600 can potentially surpass the A20 and A20 Pro. The outcome will depend on both the process node and architectural improvements, which remain unconfirmed.
