A new quantum routing system developed by Origin Quantum and Chinese research partners achieves transmission efficiencies that could help scale superconducting quantum computers. The Benewu Wukong platform now handles data movement with significantly less error accumulation, which matters for researchers trying to build larger, more stable quantum networks. This advance targets the bottlenecks that currently limit the practical size of quantum random access memory systems.

New routing method reduces circuit depth for scalable superconducting quantum networks

The system operates on the Benewu Wukong superconducting quantum computer, a collaboration between Origin Quantum, the University of Science and Technology of China, and the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center AI Research Institute. It implements coherent, reversible routing controlled by quantum addresses. This approach allows the machine to direct quantum information without destroying the delicate states required for computation.

Testing shows the single router achieves a 98% transmission efficiency and a 94.8% average fidelity. When expanded to a two-layer network, the system maintains a 93% transmission efficiency and an 82.4% average fidelity. These figures demonstrate that the routing method preserves quantum information integrity even as the network complexity increases.

The research team explains that the system reduces circuit depth by converting complex controlled swap operations into shallow circuits with few two-qubit transition gates. This structural change directly lowers error accumulation during data transfer. The solution uses auxiliary energy levels of superconducting qubits to facilitate this efficient routing process.

Kuai Ke Ji reported the breakthrough, stating that China achieves a new breakthrough in independent superconducting quantum computers with transmission efficiency reaching 98%. The development addresses scalability issues for Bucket-Brigle Quantum Random Access Memory. The technology currently exists as a research prototype with no announced commercial pricing or availability dates.
