Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has criticized the comparison of GPUs to nuclear weapons, calling the analogy 'stupid.' He argued that export controls on AI chips have backfired and that the US should allow selling GPUs to adversarial countries to maintain global dominance of the US tech stack.
Huang argues export controls backfired
Huang stated that he fundamentally opposes comparing Nvidia GPUs to atomic bombs. He noted that a billion people have Nvidia GPUs and that he supports GPUs for his family and loved ones, but not atomic bombs for anyone. He said the analogy makes no sense and prevents clear thinking.
Critics have warned that selling GPUs to China could fuel military AI development. Nvidia has denied providing technical support to DeepSeek for use by the People's Liberation Army. Chinese universities with ties to the military have obtained Nvidia A100 GPU servers.
Huang's comments come amid ongoing debate over US export controls on AI hardware. The company has not confirmed any changes to its sales policies.
