Microsoft has confirmed a bug in Windows 11 that prevents users from downloading updates through the Windows Update settings. The issue causes error 0x10002 when trying to download updates.
Bug affects updates from March 2026 Patch Tuesday
The bug affects updates released from March 2026 Patch Tuesday onward. Microsoft says the root cause is recent changes in download timeout requirements when starting download operations. The problem is not related to device integrity or the ability to install updates, only the ability to download them via the Windows Update page under Settings.
Affected devices may still be able to download the February monthly Windows security update, but then become unable to download updates released in March, April, or later months. Users missing critical Secure Boot updates and certificates are particularly at risk.
Microsoft has not yet provided a timeline for a fix. The company acknowledged the issue in a support service alert.
