4A Games launched METRO Redux Next-Gen Update for Metro 2033 and Last Light classic games offering uncapped frame rates and 4k textures. This launch is significant as it marks official support for NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering which significantly upgrades character facial details for old games. Now users can enjoy the enhanced visuals on modern PC setup without having to wait for full-blown game remakes.
Classic shooters get uncapped framerates and 4K textures alongside new neural rendering
Aside from technical upgrades for the game engine like Screen Space Global Illumination and enhanced details for geometry and textures. This update also offers 4K Textures with enhanced PBR materials as well as upgraded animations and audio quality (including support for spatial audio). Along with it is Adaptive Triggers support for DualSense controllers and Impulse Triggers for Xbox controllers enhancing tactile feedback for the user.
- Upscaling Options: 4A TSR, NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR
- Graphics Features: Screen Space Global Illumination, increased geometry details, increased texture details, 4K textures, improved PBR materials, improved animation and sound quality, spatial audio support, Adaptive Triggers for DualSense and Impulse Triggers for Xbox controllers
- DLSS 5 Support: Neural Rendering
METRO 2033 and Last Light Redux becomes the 2nd and 3rd game to offer official support for NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering. This is even ahead of Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 support by almost 2 weeks. It also offers different upscaling options which include (specifically) 4A TSR, NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR to let the users play with their priorities in performance vs quality.
Initial impressions seem to show that DLSS 5 provides a massive upgrade to the character faces while offering minimal improvements on the environments visuals. DSO Gaming mentioned how character faces look a lot better with DLSS 5. YouTuber John Papadopoulos also mentioned how it's barely noticeable for the environments' upgrades. Seems like the neural rendering model performs better when it comes to high-frequency details such as the facial geometry.
Seems like the substantial performance drop indicates that they're still using the DLSS 5 model launched with NBA 2K27 and not the newer one. This performance drop is something to keep in mind for mid-tier PC users who want to use the new upscaling features. It's uncertain if 4A Games will offer support for DLSS 5 on their upcoming METRO 2039.
