Heroic Games Launcher developers are building Xodus, an open-source project designed to bring Xbox PC games to Linux users. This effort matters because it targets a growing library of titles locked behind Microsoft's proprietary GDK and MSIXVC formats, which currently block native Linux play. Buyers who rely on Linux for gaming now have a dedicated tool aiming to unlock that content.
Open-source tool handles authentication and package decryption for Linux gamers
The project functions as a compatibility layer built on a custom fork of Wine, maintained specifically for Xodus. This custom Wine implementation includes patches tailored to handle the unique requirements of Xbox PC games. The developers have structured the software to manage the specific technical demands of the Xbox ecosystem on Linux.
Xodus already handles Microsoft and Xbox authentication, allowing users to sign in and verify licenses. The system also downloads and decrypts MSIXVC packages, which are the standard distribution format for these games. A direct quote from the developers confirms that the tool "handles Microsoft/Xbox authentication, game package downloads and licenses."
PC Game Pass functionality is not yet working on Linux through Xodus because development is still focused on recreating the Xbox Gaming Runtime. The team is prioritizing newer GDK-based titles rather than older UWP releases. Support for OG Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatibility remains unconfirmed, as developers have not yet verified support for those older titles.

Xodus currently provides a path for authenticated Xbox PC titles on Linux, though full Game Pass integration is still in progress. Users can expect the project to evolve as the Xbox Gaming Runtime recreation advances.
