Display manufacturer BOE is accelerating the mass production of its 8.6th-generation OLED panels. The company plans to commence production at its Chengdu B16 factory by the end of the current month. This timeline represents a significant shift from the original schedule, which targeted the second half of 2026.
ASUS and Acer identified as top customers for new panels
The new production line will yield approximately 32,000 sheets per month. BOE is targeting 14-inch OLED panels for the laptop market. The company claims these panels offer better color accuracy, deeper blacks, improved contrast, and significantly better pixel response times compared to LCD and mini-LED technologies.
ASUS and Acer are identified as the top customers for these 14-inch OLED laptops. This supply chain move aims to provide alternatives to Apple's MacBook Pro rivals. It also positions BOE to challenge Samsung's current monopoly on high-end tandem OLEDs for the Apple ecosystem.
The report from The Elec does not disclose the specific production volume or the names of the laptop models using these panels. Final pricing for the panels remains unknown, and market observers note it is unclear how expensive these displays will be for manufacturers.
