Guild Wars players now have a new tactical option that moves beyond traditional card mechanics. ArenaNet and NC released Mistbound, a collectible card game that lets users compete in a PvP arena on PC and mobile devices. This release matters because it offers a fresh way to engage with the franchise's lore through dynamic battlefield positioning rather than static card stats.
Dynamic movement allows cards to shift positions on the battlefield
The game is published globally by bilibili and targets both PC and mobile platforms. It serves as the first collectible card game set in the Guild Wars universe. Players select cards to deploy onto a dynamic 5×3 tactical grid, which forms the core of the gameplay experience.
Mistbound introduces a system called Dynamic Movement Gameplay that allows each card to move in multiple directions per turn. This mechanic enables combat features such as knockbacks, pulls, and flanking opportunities. These actions allow players to shift between offense and defense positioning during matches.
Commanders actively join the combat to provide tactical diversity. The roster includes Marshal Trahearne, Countess Anise, and Knut Whitebear from Guild Wars 2. It also features Nika, a Hero from Guild Wars Factions. The game draws inspiration from Guild Wars 2's nine professions to shape these character abilities.
Colin Johanson, Studio Head at ArenaNet, stated that the team wanted to give fans a new way to play together. Hwang Sunwoo, Producer of Mistbound at NC, explained that the design expresses complexity through the battlefield rather than individual cards.
