AMD reported record Q1 2026 revenue of $10.253 billion, up 38 percent year over year. The company's data center revenue reached $5.8 billion, a 57 percent increase, surpassing Intel's $5.1 billion for the first time. AMD's data center operating profit of $1.16 billion dwarfed Intel's $0.2 billion.
Record revenue and data center milestone
The company outlined a roadmap for its next-generation server processors. The 6th Gen EPYC series, codenamed Venice and Verano, will use a 2nm process and offer up to 256 cores. The current Turin EPYC chips provide up to 192 cores. AMD also plans a rack-scale system called Helios that integrates next-generation EPYC and Instinct accelerators.

AMD CEO Lisa Su said the CPU-to-GPU ratio in AI data centers has historically been 1:8 or 1:4. She predicted that CPUs will become more prominent, potentially reaching a 1:1 ratio or even exceeding the number of GPUs. The company forecasts the CPU market will grow at a 35 percent compound annual rate to $120 billion by 2030.
Meta is expected to be a major customer for the 6th Gen EPYC Venice and Verano processors. Meta also plans to deploy 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs. OpenAI has signed a multi-year strategic agreement for 6 gigawatts of AMD GPUs as well. AMD has not confirmed pricing or availability for the upcoming products.
