NEC Japan has introduced a new ultralight laptop called the Lavie Nextreme, designed specifically for business users who need to carry their devices around all day. The company unveiled this 13.3-inch model with a focus on extreme portability and long battery life rather than raw computing power.

The device features a carbon fiber body that keeps its weight down to just 994 grams, which is approximately 2.19 pounds. The ultralight carbon fiber chassis weighs just 994 grams, ensuring comfortable portability for daily commutes and business travel.
Under the hood, the Lavie Nextreme runs on an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor that includes a dedicated neural processing unit capable of handling 47 TOPS of AI performance. The Intel Core Ultra 7 processor includes a dedicated NPU designed to handle Copilot+ AI features and general machine learning workloads effectively.
The laptop comes equipped with 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which provides ample memory for multitasking and running demanding applications simultaneously. Storage options go up to 1 TB, ensuring that users have enough space for large files and extensive software libraries without needing external drives.
A 74 Wh battery is included in the design, offering a runtime of over 20 hours when tested using the JEITA Measurement Method Ver.3.0 for video playback. The 74 Wh user-replaceable battery provides over 20 hours of runtime, supporting all-day productivity during travel and office use.
The display is a 1,920 by 1,200 IPS touchscreen that supports wide viewing angles and high color accuracy for clear visuals in various lighting conditions. It also includes a Full HD webcam to support professional video calls, along with dual 2W speakers for audio output during presentations or media consumption.
Connectivity options are comprehensive, featuring two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports that support power delivery and display output, plus two Type-A ports for legacy peripherals. The device also includes an HDMI port, an Ethernet jack, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and a microSD card slot for additional storage expansion.
The carbon fiber chassis is treated with a scratch- and fingerprint-resistant coating to maintain its appearance during daily use. The overall dimensions are 299 by 214 by 17.9 millimeters, making it compact enough to fit easily into standard business bags and briefcases.
Pricing for the Lavie Nextreme starts at 308,400 yen when ordered directly from NEC in Japan, with delivery expected within about a week of purchase. This model is currently available only to customers located in Japan, as indicated by the regional restrictions on its release.
