Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has urged Super Micro Computer to strengthen its export compliance controls following a major smuggling bust involving Nvidia-equipped servers. The company faces pressure from U.S. and Taiwanese authorities after law enforcement arrested suspects for fraudulent shipping declarations. Taiwan launched its first formal crackdown on illicit AI hardware exports during the same period. Supermicro co-founder Yih-Shyan Liaw and two others face charges in the United States for allegedly conspiring to smuggle servers through Southeast Asian shell companies.
CEO demands partners improve export controls following major smuggling bust
Huang confirmed that Nvidia holds a license to ship H200 chips to China, but noted that zero units have reached customers despite the approval. He described the Chinese market as very large and important for Nvidia's broader business strategy. The CEO also mentioned that China represents part of a $200 billion addressable market for Nvidia's upcoming Vera CPU architecture.

Nvidia partners must now enhance their regulation compliance to prevent future illicit exports from occurring. Huang emphasized this requirement during an address to the media at Songshan Airport. He stated that the company insists all partners remain compliant with U.S. trade rules and hopes they will improve their internal controls going forward.
The situation highlights growing regulatory scrutiny around high-performance AI hardware destined for restricted markets. Government agencies in both the United States and Taiwan are actively pursuing legal action against companies involved in unauthorized exports. Nvidia continues to navigate complex international trade restrictions while maintaining its position in key global markets.
Supermicro has not publicly commented on the compliance updates or the ongoing legal proceedings. The company faces significant reputational and financial risks as authorities investigate the alleged smuggling network.
