Google announced Wear OS 7 at Google I/O 2026. The update brings several technical improvements to smartwatches including the Pixel Watch 4.
Interactive widgets replace tiles
Wear OS 7 promises up to 10 percent longer battery life. It replaces full-screen tiles with interactive widgets in two formats. Workout apps can optionally use Google's system app UI for consistency. A Gemini API enables third-party AI assistant integration. The music player supports multi-device streaming via Google Cast or Bluetooth. Watch face development becomes easier, and there are minor performance and UI improvements.

The Pixel Watch 4 is priced at $399 USD (about $399). Wear OS 7 will be released globally later this year.
The update standardizes the workout app experience and opens up AI assistant capabilities to third-party developers. These changes aim to make the platform more consistent and capable across different devices and apps.

Google has not confirmed the exact release date for Wear OS 7 beyond a general later this year timeframe.
